Abstract

A cultural resources survey has been completed for the Mt. Joy Timber Sale on the Conasauga Ranger District in Chattooga County. The area of potential effect (APE) for the present project consists of those areas for which ground-disturbing activities associated with the timber sales could potentially occur and in this case the timber sale units. The timber sale includes 288 acres along East Armuchee Creek. Six new prehistoric sites (9CG260, 9CG261, 9CG262, 9CG263, 9CG264, and 9CG267) were found and one site (9CG35) was revisited. One historic/modern house site (9CG265) was also recorded along with one historic rock pile (9CG266). Two sites (9CG35 and 9CG263) are recommended as having an unknown eligibility and will require additional work. The remaining seven sites are considered not eligible for the NRHP.
