Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site includes a proposed 100-foot by 100-foot (30-meter by 30-meter) lease area and an approximate 175-foot long by 30-foot wide (53-meter by 9-meter) access/utility easement within an approximate 3.85-acre parent tract. The proposed lease area would include a 199-foot (overall height) tall monopole telecommunications structure and associated ground level support equipment. The subject site is located at 211 Highway 138, Jonesboro, Clayton County, Georgia. This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, one previously recorded archaeological site (9CN61) and one archaeological survey report (2885) were identified within ¾-mile background research radius. The survey report (2885) was conducted for proposed improvements to Highway 138, but not within the proposed APE for direct affects; no archaeological sites were identified during this survey. The previously recorded site (9CN61) is not located within or near the APE for direct effects. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment no archaeological sites were identified. ECA believes that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Based on our findings related to archaeological resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
