Abstract

The proposed project would reconstruct and realign the intersection at Flat Shoals Road/Steele Road and Henderson Mill Road with SR 36. This project was subjected to two previous surveys, once by Erica Jeter in 2000 and again by Luke Erickson in 2004 (HPD #000630-009). Since that time the project has been changed to include additional mainline widening along SR 36. The additional right.oOf·way varies with a maximum of an additional 1 S feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor.

An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOTIFHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in comultation with DNR Historic on Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.

By agreement, because no archaeological resoutces were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect, no signed concurrence ftom the State mstoric Preservation Office is required. It is concluded, therefo~ that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
