Abstract

R. S. Webb and Associates (RSWA) conducted a cultural resources survey of the proposed 28-hectare (69- acre) Thompson Estates tract in Cobb County, Georgia to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area, and to assess the significance of each resource. The project area is located south of Old Highway 41, north of the CSX Railroad, and west of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Two archeological sites, 9C0690 and 9C0691, and one isolated find, IF -1, were recorded during the survey. Both 9C0690 and 9C0691 are 20th century structure sites. IF-1 consisted of a horseshoe fragment. IF-1, 9C0690, and 9C0691 are all recommended ineligible for the NRHP. No further work is recommended in these locations. Two historic resources, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park and the Western and Atlantic Railroad, adjoin the project area. These resources will suffer no adverse effect from the proposed undertaking. Cultural resources clearance is recommended for the Thompson Estates tract.
