Abstract

In April 2005, TRC conducted an archaeological survey on the Phase V parcel within the Benjamin Van Clark Park neighborhood of Savannah, Georgia. The Housing Authority of Savannah Senior Partnership LP is applying for an FHA loan (insured by the Department of Housing and Urban Development), and plans to construct new senior housing on the project tract as Phase V of the HOPE VI project for the Benjamin Van Clark Park neighborhood. Background research determined that no previously recorded archaeological sites exist within the project area. Eleven previously recorded archaeological sites occur outside the project tract within 1 km of its boundaries. A combined pedestrian and subsurface testing program was applied to the entire project tract as part of the archaeological survey. No archaeological sites were identified during the survey, and no further archaeological investigations are recommended.
