Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed Tolbert Street widening on July 9, 2003. The corridor features a right-of-way of 60 feet and extends approximately 0.95 mile, beginning at its intersection with Castleberry Road and extending north to its terminus at the intersection with Kelly Mill Road. The corridor is located within the limits of the City of Cumming. The narrow corridor right-of-way ensured that shovel tests, for the most part, encountered disturbed soils fromĀ· the original road construction. Throughout the study, testing revealed eroded red clay subsoil. No archaeological sites were found during the course of the survey. No further archaeological study of the proposed Tolbert Street corridor is recommended.
