Abstract

Project BRM-M-8012(1) consists of a proposed bridge over the Chattahoochee River between Phenix City, Alabama, and Columbus, Georgia. Four alternative routes were surveyed. Alternative A consists of the construction of a six-lane bridge at 14th Street, with a diagonal new location connector between 13th and 14th Streets and between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. Alternative B consists of the construction of a six-lane bridge over the river at 14th Street, south of the existing bridge. Both alternatives (A and B) would tie into an existing six-lane roadway in Phenix City, with a proposed 120 foot right-of-way. Alternative C consists of the construction of a six-lane bridge over the river at 13th Street, using the 13th Street alignment. This bridge would tie into an existing six-lane facility in Phenix City; the proposed right-of-way would be 120 feet wide. Alternative D consists of the construction of a six-lane bridge over the river at l0th Street. This alternative begins at Broad Street in Phenix City and extends along the l0th Street corridor, crossing the railroad marshaling yards and l0th Avenue, and intersecting with Wynnton Road just east of Bradley Drive. A grade separation would be constructed over the railroad marshaling yards. The project would be on new location east of l0th Street in Phenix City and between 10th Avenue and Wynnton Road in Columbus.
