Abstract

New South Associates has completed the archaeological survey of nine intersections in Barrow County, Georgia in response to a request from Atkins North America, Inc. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plans to upgrade a total of nine signalized intersections along State Route (SR) 53, SR 81, SR 211, and SR 316 under Project PI #0012672. The proposed improvements would enhance efficiency for vehicular and pedestrian movements at several locations by providing upgraded traffic signal equipment and pedestrian platforms, energy saving LED signal heads, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps, pedestrian signals, and crosswalk striping. The work for this survey was conducted in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (36 CFR 800), and was intended to determine the presence of significant archaeological resources in the project’s area of potential effect (APE).
