Abstract

The proposed project is located approximately 5 miles south of Dallas in Paulding County, Georgia. The project would involve intersection improvements to State Route (SR) 61 and County Road (CR) 277/Nebo Road/Mayfield Road. The proposed project would extend approximately I ,000 feet north and I ,030 feet south of the intersection on SR 61, approximately 425 feet east of the intersection on Nebo Road, and approximately 700 feet west of the intersection on Mayfield Road, and 210 feet on Jack Weldon Drive. The total project length would be approximately 3,365 feet (0.64 mile).

The existing intersection is un-signalized, with stop conditions on the Nebo Road and Mayfield Road approaches to SR 61. In the area of the intersection, SR 61 consists of one 12-foot through lane in each direction with no turn lanes, 4 to 10 foot shoulders (2 to 4 feet paved), and 100 feet of right-of-way (ROW). Nebo Road and Mayfield Road consist of one 11-foot through lane in each direction, 8-foot shoulders (0 to 3 feet paved). The ROW width on Mayfield Road is 100 feet while on Nebo Road it is 80 feet. Nebo Road and Mayfield Road intersect SR 61 at a skew of approximately 53 degrees, and the approaches on Nebo Road and Mayfield Road to SR 61 are offset by approximately 14 feet.

The proposed project would involve installation of a traffic signal and left and right turn lanes on SR 61 northbound and southbound. Nebo Road and Mayfield Road would each be realigned by approximately 16 feet to align at the intersection with SR 61 and to increase the proposed intersection skew angle to 60 degrees. The proposed ROW width would be variable with a maximum width of approximately 150 feet on SR 61 and 110 feet on Nebo Road and Mayfield Road. Permanent easement up to 20 feet in width would also be required for the construction and maintenance of slopes along the east side of SR 61. The proposed project would require approximately 1.1 acres of ROW and 0. 50 acres of permanent easement.
