Abstract

The proposed project is located in Effingham County in the City of Guyton at the intersection of SR 119/Springfield Avenue and SR 17/Central Boulevard. The project consists of intersection reconstruction into a single-lane, modern roundabout configuration.  The purpose of the project is to improve operational efficiency and safety. The existing SR 119/Springfield Avenue is classified as a rural, minor arterial and consists of two 12-foot travel lanes (one in each direction) and 7-foot unpaved shoulders. The existing SR 17/Central Boulevard is classified as a rural, major collector and consists of two 12-foot travel lanes (one in each direction) and 5 to 7-foot unpaved shoulders. The posted speed is 45 miles per hour (mph). The existing ROW width is approximately 60 feet. The proposed roundabout would consist of a single-lane with curb and gutter, and would have a speed limit of 35 mph.  The proposed ROW width along SR17/Central Boulevard would increase to 151 feet while the ROW along SR 119 remain at 60 feet. The proposed project length is approximately 0.5 mile.
