Abstract

The project is located in the city of Villa Rica about one half mile south of Interstate 20 in a developing urban area consisting of commercial and residential establishments. The length of this project is approximately 0.40 miles from mile post 7.77 to 8.17 and is located in Carroll County. The project involves constructing a Type B median opening with a 40 foot median. The Type B median opening would separate the left turning lanes from the through lanes, providing left turning vehicles with an added buffer. Staggered left turn lanes will be provided for both northbound and southbound left turn movements on SR 61. A right turn lane northbound onto South Carroll Road and an acceleration lane from South Carroll Road to northbound SR 61 would be constructed. There is currently a three phase signal with pedestrian signal poles on the southeast and northeast raised islands. The existing signal will be modified to accommodate the roadway updates, and meet ADA requirements.
