Abstract

Authorization for this project was received May 18, 1977 and work commenced immediately. The proposed line extends for a distance of 2 .1 miles along the eastern bank of the Upper Flint River, terminating at a point near Ga.-54 Highway. A survey had previously been undertaken along the western bank along a route now abandoned. This previous survey had briefly included a reconnaissance of the eastern sector and had identified 9-Cn- 46, a small prehistoric campsite some 2000 feet upstream from Hwy- 54 Bridge. The present investigation was carried out at the intensive level of survey with a pattern of subsurface tests so spaced along the proposed route as to assure that no cultural resources, of an archeological or historical nature, would be adversely impacted without mitigative measures in accordance with existing State and Federal regulations under P.L. 92 - 500, 93 - 291 and Executive Order 11395.
