Abstract

In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew displaced traffic signal concrete strain poles and damaged signal heads at two locations at the intersection of State Route (SR) 25 Spur/Golden Isles Parkway and Glynco Parkway in Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia (Figure 1). After the storm, they were replaced with temporary timber poles. Permanent Type IV concrete poles were subsequently installed within 6 feet (2 meters) of the previous pole locations. The emergency repair project also included installing new signal heads with backplates withreflective tape, running new conductor wire for pedestrians and loop detectors aerially across signal spans, and removing the temporary timber poles and tl1e old concrete pole foundations down to 3 feet below grade. The project took place within existing right-of-way, which varies tluoughout.
