Abstract

“In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project TSAP -1 (102),Troup County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

This project is located within the City of LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia, and extends northwesterly from the 1-85 interchange, 1.042 miles, along U.S. 27, State Route 1, Hamilton Road, a highly residential and commercial area, and ends just north of Auburn Street. The project is designed in accordance with the Geometric Design Standards for urban major streets with free access. All crossroads and streets will intersect at grade and drives will be provided in accordance with the rules and regulations for the control and protection of state highway right of way.

Construction will consist of an urban widening and resurfacing which provides for four 12 foot travel lanes, plus a 14 foot paved median. State Route 14 Spur will have turn lanes provided for safer and more efficient traffic movements. Construction includes grading, drainage, paving, curb and gutter, and utility adjustments.

The project will provide a more efficient movement of traffic into and out of the industrial park area around Industrial Drive by adding vehicular capacity between Industrial Drive and I-85.
