Abstract

"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-0000-00(202), Dawson County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

This project was previously cleared under project number STP-065-3(58), PI number 133100. The proposed project would improve the intersection of SR 53, CR 195, and CR 218 in Dawson County, Georgia. SR 53 would be widened 6 feet symmetrically to provide for left turn lanes. CR 195 and CR 218 will also be widened 6 feet symmetrically for left turn lanes. Existing right-of-way on SR 53 varies from 180-130 feet. Existing right-of-way on CR 195 and CR 218 is 80 feet. The total length of the project would be approximately 2900 feet. This reevaluation was concerned with the survey of various construction and sediment basin easements along the project corridor.
