Abstract

The proposed Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Project P.I. No. 0013610, located in Wayne County, would consist of the replacement of two existing but structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridges along U.S. Highway (U.S.) 84/State Route (SR) 38 over Little McMullen Creek in the city of Jesup, Georgia. SR 38 on the east approach to the bridges is a four-lane highway with a 14-foot flush median. SR 38 then divides into two bridges, two travel lanes each, over Little McMullen Creek and stays divided until after the SR 38/U.S. 84 and U.S. 301 interchange, where the two highways merge to a four-lane highway with 14-foot flush median. The existing eastbound bridge is 208 feet long and 44 feet wide and the existing westbound bridge is 200 feet long and 48 feet wide. The proposed bridges over Little McMullen Creek would be approximately 250 feet long by 47 feet wide for both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Both eastbound and westbound bridges would carry two, 12-foot travel lanes with two-foot inside shoulders and 10-foot outside shoulders. Five-and-a-half-foot sidewalks would be provided on both sides. The bridges would be replaced on existing alignment, as only one bridge would be under construction at a time. Existing right-of-way {ROW) varies between 125 and 200 feet. Up to 30 feet of proposed ROW in either direction could be necessary for temporary construction easements.
