In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto project STP-061-1(100), Walton and Oconee Counties has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project area.
The proposed project would construct offset left turning lanes, within existing median, on US 78/SR 10 at four intersections. The intersection improvements would be SR 10 at Pipeline Road and SR 10 at Mt. Vernon Road in Walton County, and SR 10 at SR 53 and SR 10 at Mars Hill Road in Oconee County. All construction would occur within existing right of way, with no additional right of way required. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
