Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project NH- 30 - 4(20) , Bryan-Chatham Counties has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources , especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

The proposed project would resurface approximately 5.6 kilometers (3.5 miles) of roadway on S. R. 30 in Bryan and Chatham Counties. The project would begin approximately 1.77 kilometers (1.10 miles) northeast of S.R. 204 at mile point 15.34 in Bryan County then continue easterly to an end point approximately 1.96 kilometers (1.22 miles) southwest of I -16 at mile point 18 .84 in Chatham County . All construction is limited to the existing right-of-way on S. R. 30. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed rights- of-way was conducted for the entire project corridor.
