Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project F-019-1(8), Bartow County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

The archaeological survey was conducted in accordance with "GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists and agreed upon by the Federal Highway Administration, State Historic Preservation Officer and State Archaeologist. These guidelines outline general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys of transportation projects, and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.

The subject project is a proposal to add passing lanes on State Route 140 from County Road 324 to a point approximately 200 feet west of County Road 318 near the Floyd/Bartow County line (see attached location map). The required widening for the passing lanes will be symmetrical about the centerline. There will be a minimum amount of additional right-of-way required, and no displacements or relocations will occur due to the acquisition of right-of-way.
