Abstract

Archeological Assessment of a Fannin/Gilmer/Pickens County Rumble Strip Installation Project. This proposed project consists of installing ground-in rumble strips in both directions on the shoulder of SR 515 from Pickens County to Fannin County. All work will take place within the existing right-of-way with no new right-of-way required. Below are the locations where the rumble strips will be installed.

1. Pickens County - Beginning at the Cherokee County Line (M.P. 0.00) and ending at CR 300/Philadelphia Road (M.P. 7.87) - total length is 15.74 miles.

2. Pickens County - Beginning at CR 250/Antioch Church Road (M.P. 11.33) and ending at the Gilmer County Line (M.P. 14.40)- total length is 6.14 miles.

3. Gilmer County- Beginning at the Pickens County Line (M.P. 0.00) and ending at SR 382 (M.P. 4.93) - total length is 9.86 miles.

4. Fannin County - Beginning 0.57 mile south of CR 49/Sparks Road (M.P. 14.44) and ending at the Union County Line (M.P. 17.12) - total length is 5.36 miles.

Pursuant to the February 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the State Historic Preservation Officer of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (SHPO), and the Georgia Department of Transportation, this project is considered an undertaking as defined in 36 CFR 800.16(y), however, it has been determined there is no potential to affect historic properties included in or considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
