Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project CSSTP-0007-00(064), Clayton County, Georgia, has been surveyed with respect to archeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify, and evaluate the significance of any archeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. This project proposes to improve the intersection of SR 54 and Thomas Road, in Clayton County, Georgia. The improvements will include utilizing the existing shoulders on SR 54 to provide symmetrical widening to accommodate a 200' left turn lane onto Thomas Road. Both the cast and westbound lanes will be shifted 5 ½ feet in order to utilize 125 feet minimal shifting tapers to reduce the impacts on the Flint River overpass. There will be 7 ½ paved shoulders on both sides. All work will take place within the existing right-of-way. No new right-of-way is required. The total project length is 600 feet.
