Abstract

Greenhouse CONSULTANTS incorporated completed a Phase I archaeological survey of approximately 10 acres of Project Rocket situated on West Park Place Boulevard near Stone Mountain, Gwinnett County, Georgia. The purpose of this investigation was to identify cultural resources within the project area and to evaluate those resources against the criteria for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Fieldwork for this investigation was undertaken during September 2018.

No artifacts or above ground cultural resources were found within the 10 acre Area of Potential Effect (APE) as a result of the fieldwork. The Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) lists one previously recorded site (9GW175) within the surveyed APE. The GASF records indicate 9GW175 is a quartz quarry that extends into the northwestern part of the survey tract. This investigation redefines the southern extent of 9GW175 and determined that it was plotted incorrectly and does not extend into the survey tract. Therefore, we conclude that the development of this tract will not adversely affect historic properties and thus, recommend no additional fieldwork.
