Abstract

This proposed project would improve the intersection of State Route (SR) 92 and Bowen Road/Old Mountain Park Road. SR 92 in the project area is an urban principal arterial that connects the City of Roswell with locations westward such as the City of Woodstock and 1-575. SR 92 is a six lane median-divided roadway with 3 through lanes in each direction. Al the intersection, SR 92 has left- and right-turn lanes for the eastbound and westbound approaches. Bowen Road/Old Mountain Park Road is a two lane undivided roadway and is functionally classified as a local road. At the intersection, Bowen Road/Old Mountain Park Road runs north/south and has left-turn lanes on the northbound and southbound approaches to its intersection with SR 92. The project proposes to extend the westbound left turn lane on SR 92 by 400 feet and add approximately 190 feet right turn lane on the northbound approach on Bowen Road. A joint-use utility pole will also be relocated. These improvements seek to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes in the westbound left turn bay and also improve Bowen Road operation by reducing the delay and queueing for the northbound approach.
