Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-114-1(86), Habersham County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project consists of the construction of east and west bound passing lanes on SR 105 approximately 1.6 km west of the city limits of Demorest, Georgia. Additionally, the SR 105 bridge over the Soquee River will be replaced approximately 15.0 m (49.2 ft) upstream of the existing bridge structure. The total project length would be approximately 3.14 km (1.95 mi). The existing right-of-way for. SR 105 is approximately 18.3 m (60.0 ft). The total proposed right-of-way would be approximately 30.0 m (98.4 ft). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed right-of-way was conducted for the entire project corridor.
