Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The proposed undertaking would include a proposed 80-foot by 80-foot (24-meter by 24-meter) lease area that would include a 264-foot overall height self-supporting telecommunications structure and associated ground-level support equipment. The facility would be accessible by a proposed approximate 900-foot long by 30-foot wide (274-meter by 9-meter) access/utility easement. The proposed facility would be located at 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton, Cherokee County, Georgia.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. During our database research, we found ten previously recorded archaeological sites (9CK727, 9CK730, 9CK770, 9CK771, 9CK772, 9CK773, 9CK774, 9CK775, 9CK928, and 9CK1044) and nine archaeological surveys (276, 1152, 1718, 6811, 6947, 6952, 8375, 10072, and 10779) within our standard 1-mile background research radius. Archaeological Survey 1152 is located within the APE for direct effects. However, none of the previously recorded archaeological sites, and none of the remaining eight archaeological surveys are located within the APE for direct effects. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered.

ECA believes that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
