Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-0573 (14), Telfair County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project consists of shoulder paving on SR 11 7 in Telfair County. The proposed project would begin in Jacksonville at mile post 14.54 and continue easterly to an ending point at mile post 34.20 in Lumber City. Shoulder paving on SR 117 would add 0.6 m (2 ft.) of paved shoulders on the left and right sides of existing pavement. All construction is limited to the existing pavement and shoulders on SR 117. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project's rights-of-way was conducted for the entire 31.56 km (19.62 mi.) project corridor.
