Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, projects NH-001-4(47), Spalding County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. Project NH-001-4 (47) would widen and reconstruct US 19/SR 3 in Spalding County. The proposed project on US 19/SR 3 would begin at the "Y" junction of US 19/SR 3/SR 92 then continue northerly to an end point approximately 150 meters (492 feet) north of Laprade Road. The existing right-of-way on US 19/SR 3 is approximately 60 meters (197 feet), while the additional required right-of-way would be a maximum of approximately 40 meters (131 feet). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
