Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-031- 1 (32), Quitman County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resource s within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. Project STP-031-1(32) would realign US 82/SR 50 through the city of Georgetown in Quitman County. The proposed project would begin on US 82/SR 50 at CR 506/Back Street then continue on existing alignment for approximately 101 meters (330 feet). From that point, the proposed project would be constructed on new location southeasterly for approximately 400 meters (1312 feet) to an end point at the existing intersection of CR 502/Church Street and US 82/SR 50. Approximately 45 meters (150 feet) of additional required right-of-way will be utilized during the construction of the proposed project. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the proposed project corridor.
