In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments the r e to and the Georgia Environmental Policy Act (GEPA), projects STP- 035-1(29) & BHF-035- 1(30), Rockdale County have been surveyed with res pec t to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project area. The proposed project would widen SR 138 in Rockdale County from a point just south of the Inters tale-20 interchange, northerly to a point just past Dennard Road. The existing roadway, which varies in width from 2-4 lanes, would be widened to 6 lanes from I-20 to Old Covington Road, and to 4 lanes the remainder of the project, total project length is approximately 4 miles. The existing right- of-way varies from 120 to 130 feet, required right- of- way varies from 130 to 156 fee t. Project BHF- 035-1(30) would widen the bridge on SR 138 over the Yellow River to 44 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor
