Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, projects SR-0869(10) & (12), FR-035-1(26), and BHS-0869(11) Rockdale County have been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRBP). The purpose of the survey was to locate; identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The proposed projects would reconstruct and widen S.R. 20 south of Conyers. The projects as proposed would begin at a point just south of the intersection of Honey Creek Road then would extend northerly along existing S.R. 20 to a point just north of Flat Shoals Road. In addition, the intersection of S.R. 138 would be shifted approximately 1,600 feet south of its existing location. Miller's Chapel Road would be relocated to the north intersecting S.R. 20 opposite Jimson Way. A new bridge culvert would be constructed at Almond Branch creek. Required rights-of-way for the proposed projects varies from a minimum of 12 feet to a maximum of 36 feet. New location rights-of-way would be approximately 116 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed rights-of-way was surveyed for the entire 3.7-mile length of the project corridor.
