Abstract

New South Associates, Inc. (New South), has completed a Phase I Archaeological Survey for proposed improvements to the intersection of SR 124/Braselton Highway and CR 47/Old Hog Mountain Road in Barrow County, Georgia. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plans to install a roundabout at this intersection (PI No. 0015882). The work was intended to identify archaeological resources within the project’s Environmental Survey Boundary (ESB) and evaluate their National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility.

The ESB encompasses the roadway approaches to the existing Y-intersection along with area necessary to accommodate the roundabout. The segment along SR 124 measures roughly 2,100 feet long and 300-400 feet wide. The ESB segment along Old Hog Mountain Road extends approximately 800 feet from the intersection and measures 250-400 feet wide.
