Abstract

The proposed project would repair and reconstruct a section of previously existing stone/ rip rap armoring along the south bank of the Ogeechee River between the river and State Route (SR) 144 Spur. The project is in response to damages caused by Hurricane Matthew. The project would install Type 3 rip rap, geotextile filter fabric, and Type 1 rip rap at six locations (Figure 1). The proposed project would begin near the western end of the Fort McAllister Marina on SR 144 and would extend 470 meters (1,540 feet) west, ending approximately 160 meters (520 feet) east of Williamson Drive on SR 144. The project would be within existing right of way (ROW), which is 100 feet wide. In January 2017, the project was extended an additional 300 meters (984 feet) east. GDOT waived the additional fieldwork needed to cover the extra 300 meters (please see Additional Attachment Email, Smeeton to Chamblin 1/18/17).
