Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project PR-8530(273) in Terrell County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. Proposed project PR-8530(273) in Terrell County proposes to widen 12th Avenue in the City of Dawson. The project would begin on State Route 520 where a right turn lane would be constructed onto 12'h Avenue and end on State Route 118 where a right turn lane would be constructed onto 12th Avenue. The existing roadway on 12'h Avenue varies from 19. 7 to 21 feet in width. The proposed project would widen 12th Avenue to two 12-foot travel lanes and curb and gutter. Center Street would also be realigned at its intersection with 12th Avenue. The majority of the 12'h Avenue widening would be accomplished within existing right-of-way, but a maximum of 23 feet of additional right-of-way would be required for the two right turn lanes and Center Street intersection realignment. The total length of this project would be 0.74 miles.
