Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of Brookwood Road in Forsyth County Georgia on May 17, 2004. The parameters for the archaeological study consisted of pedestrian survey of the corridor, which is 1.08 miles in length and includes an addition of 40 feet of right-of-way to the existing 60 feel of right-of-way. The project corridor extends between the intersection of Brookwood Rood and McGinnis Ferry Road and Brookwood Road and Georgia Highway 141. One previously recorded archaeological site and one cultural resource survey are located within a one-mile (l .60 km) radius of the study area. Two previously unrecorded archaeological sites were discovered within the project corridor. The sites are early to middle twentieth artifact scatters associated with historic home sites. However, the History survey, conducted by New South Associates, recommended the farmstead as potentially eligible for the NRHP under Criterion A as a good example of on early twentieth century farm.
