Abstract

Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., in conjunction with the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia, submits to the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) the following technical proposal to conduct archeological survey off our alternative routes of the "Fall Line Freeway" from Columbus, Georgia to Augusta, Georgia. As described in the Request for Proposal (RFP) prepared by the DOT, the primary goal of the survey is to gather sufficient data to identify, within a reasonable degree of certainty, all sites within the proposed project rights-of-way that are potentially eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. In this respect the survey can be considered to be intensive. The RFP is clear, however, that not every site will be located. It is also the intention of the DOT to gather only enough data to make a preliminary evaluation of significance for each cultural resource identified.
