Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site is a proposed telecommunications facility located on property occupied by Windy Hill Senior Center at 1885 Roswell Street, Smyrna, Cobb County, Georgia. The proposed telecommunications compound would measure 50-feet by 50-feet. The initial access to the site would be from the existing paved parking areas of the Windy Hill Senior Center. The access then would extend from the paved parking area along a paved path traversing through wooded areas. The final approximate 100-foot by 20-foot access would traverse through a wooded area to the site of the proposed telecommunications facility. The facility would include a 130-foot monopole telecommunications structure (135-feet with appurtenances) and associated ground level support equipment.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, no previously recorded archaeological sites within the area for direct effects were identified. Furthermore, during the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment no archaeological cultural resources were encountered.

We believe that the proposed undertaking would not affect any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Based on our findings related to archaeological resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
