Abstract

The archeological survey of the proposed driveway and parking area was conducted on December 15,2014 by Registered Professional Archeologist Tom Gresham, president of Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., and Registered Landscape Architect Debbie Bell, of Newton County. Based on an initial, on-site consultation on June 27, 2014, the extent of the proposed driveway and parking area had been recently cleared of undergrowth by a front mounted grinder attached to a rubber-tired bobcat (Figures 2 and 3). The driveway was investigated with a transect of 30-cm diameter shovel tests placed on l0-m (33-ft) intervals (Shovel Tests 1-4 in Figure 1). The proposed parking area was investigated with six shovel tests (5-10) placed on a 10-m (33-ft) grid. Finally, Shovel Test 11 was placed in a bulging area of the proposed driveway.
