Abstract

The proposed project is located in the southwest portion of Long County approximately 4 miles south of the town of Ludowici. The proposed project is to conduct a block survey of the Townsend Tract which is 1,706 acres of Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) surplus property. (Due to the large, irregular size of the tract, it was broken down into smaller sized blocks using the existing roads and two tracks and sometimes land features as boundaries. A total of 11 blocks were created; labeled A through K.) About 95 percent of the project area is located on the west side of SR 57, the remaining 5 percent of the project area is located on the east side of SR 57. This short form will focus on the GDOT property on the east side of SR 57 or what has been given the designation of survey block A and B for a total of 18.4 acres of land.

Survey Block A covers an area of 3.2 acres of GDOT surplus land of a pine plantation. This parcel is triangular in shape and is bounded to the north by County Road 2 (Rozier Road), to the west by Melvin Hutcheson Road, and by private property to the south. Survey Block B covers an area of 15.2 acres of GDOT surplus land of a pine plantation. This parcel is a polygon in shape and is bounded.
