Abstract

In November 2019, Trileaf Corporation (Trileaf) performed a cultural resource inventory survey for a proposed collocation located in Thomas County, Thomasville, Georgia (Latitude: 31° 50' 13.37” Longitude: -83° 58' 56.54”). The project location is located on an existing water tower, near the heart of Thomasville. Verizon Wireless proposes to install new antennas at 141 feet (42.9 meters) centering on an existing 175-foot (53 meter) water tower. Ground-based equipment is proposed to be installed within an existing 11.5 x 16-foot (3.5 x 4.8 meter) equipment shelter. A new underground/fiber conduit is proposed to extend approximately 50 feet (15.2 meters) generally east from the proposed lease area (the existing equipment shelter). Total acreage of the new construction area is approximately 0.009 acres (0.004 Hectares). Senior Project Archaeologist Zach Horne, M.A., RPA, and Project Archaeologist II, Colin Bean, M.A, under the direction of Trileaf, performed this survey in response to the planned use of the above described parcel and the potential impacts that such use might represent to archaeological and architectural cultural resources. The Phase I cultural resource survey was designed to discover all prehistoric and historical period cultural resources that might be present within the project area. As the proposed project is a collocation, and because the area is heavily disturbed, no subsurface archaeological testing was completed. A review of archaeological sites and surveys, conducted by the university of Georgia on October 25, 2019, identified nor previously recorded archeological sites or surveys within the direct project area. However, five (5) archaeological sites (9TH43, 9TH59, 9TH61, 9TH113, and 9TH114) and eight (8) surveys (2241, 2584, 9419, 9565, 11202, 11803, 12357, and 12492) were identified within 1 – mile of the proposed project area.
