Abstract

In December of 2005, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. archeologically surveyed the proposed new Mulberry River gravity sewer line in Jackson County, Georgia. The project is located on the east bank of the Mulberry River and west of the town of Braselton. The sewer line will be 24 - 30 inches in diameter and will be installed between 4 - 15 ft below the ground surface. Total length of the sewer line is approximately 6100 ft. As a result of the survey it was determined that the sewer line will intercept one previously recorded archeological site, designated 9JK 183. This is a low density prehistoric site that was recorded in 1996 during the archeological survey of the Braselton drip irrigation fields (Richardson and Duff 1996). In 1996, after review by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, it was determined that 9JK183 lacks significance, and is not eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. No additional archeological sites were found during the current survey. The proposed sewer line will not adversely affect any significant archeological sites.
