Abstract

A Phase I archeological survey was conducted in February and July of 2007 in the area of potential effect for the Phenomenon Trail, a 3 m (10 ft) wide, 5 km (3 mi) long multi-use path that extends from George T. Bagby State Park to the East Bank Day Use Area on the shores of Walter F. George Reservoir in Clay County, Georgia. This survey located six previously unrecorded sites (9CY202, 9CY203, 9CY204, 9CY205, 9CY206 and 9CY207), all but one (9CY202) consisting of disturbed or destroyed house sites dating to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Site 9CY202 is a sparse prehistoric lithic scatter. We conclude that the proposed Phenomenon Trail will not affect any significant archeological deposits within these sites.
