Abstract

This brief report and attachments document my investigation of the Cook family cemetery located a short distance south of Lula Georgia, on the west side of State Route 52. This is a known cemetery that was first reported in the Hall County cemetery book (McRay 1971).

According to McKay there was evidence of about 15 graves, with field stones marking several burials. There was only one inscribed stone, an obelisk for Neverson and Margaret Cook. Neverson Cook was born in 1785 and he died in 1856 (not 1855 as reported in the cemetery book- his last will and testament is dated March 28, 1856). His wife Margaret was born in 1788 and died in 1873. Both graves are marked with unmodified field stones at the west (head) end, but cut stones inscribed with their initials have been placed at the foot ends of both burials.

Thus, it appears that the obelisk and foot stones were placed there sometime after 1873, probably by the sons of Neverson and Margaret, who resided in the area after their parents died.
