Abstract

In January and February 2022, R.S. Webb & Associates conducted a Phase I cultural resources survey of the 47-hectare (115-acre) Longacre development tract in the City of Buford, Gwinnett County, Georgia (Figure 1.1). Proposed development includes the construction of a warehouse/distribution facility. The survey was performed under contract with Corblu Ecology, LLC. This project requires a Clean Water Act permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District (USACE) (Public Law 92-500/95-217; 33 U.S.C. 1251), and therefore, must comply with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) (54 U.S.C. 300101 et seq.). Under the NHPA, a cultural resources survey is conducted to determine if cultural resources eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) will be affected by a proposed project. Cultural resources are assessed for significance using the NRHP eligibility criteria set forth in 36 CFR Part 60.4. In addition, the survey is conducted following guidelines set by the Georgia Council of Professional Archaeologists (GCPA) (2019) and the U.S. Secretary of the Interior (Federal Register 1983).
