Abstract

This report summarizes a cultural resources survey of proposed improvements to the Covington Municipal Airport, located just north of Covington and east of Oxford, Georgia. The survey was undertaken to ensure that the Federal Aviation Administration is in compliance with federal regulations governing the disposition of cultural resources (archeological and historic sites) . The survey included a background and literature search, surface inspection, and the excavation of 54 shovel tests. The survey found one very small flake of chert, which represents a very brief visit during the prehistoric period. This resource, designated as Occurrence 1, is not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places . The proposed construction will not affect any significant archeological sites.
