Abstract

In response to a request from T-Squared Site Services, LLC., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM)., has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in Appling County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project is located south of Golden Isles Pkwy at 31 °49'48.S"N 82°29'59.7"W as seen on the Pine Grove, GA USGS 7.5' topographical quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area is located adjacent to a wetland environment within an undeveloped parcel and measures 100-ft by 100-ft for a proposed telecommunications tower site with a 250-ft by 20-ft access road to the northeast; approximately 0.34-acre in total (Figures 3 & 4). An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) indicates that no previously recorded sites overlap the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on June 16, 2021 by archaeologist Stephen Nazian, B.A., University of South Florida 2008, under the supervision of Jamie Cochran-Smith M.A., Ball State University 2011, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist. This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
