ARCHAEOLOGICAL RECORDS CHECK & PHASE IA ARCHAEOLOGICAL RECONNAISSANCE FOR THE PROPOSED PIGA523 TELECOMMUNICATIONS TOWER SITE IN BERRIEN COUNTY, GEORGIA.

Abstract

In response to a request from T-Squared Site Services, LLC, RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM)., has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in Berrien County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project area is located northeast of Ray City 31°04'50.0"N 83°11'38.S"W as seen on the Ray City, GA USGS 7.5', quadrangle (Figure 2). The project is located is within a recently bulldozed area west of Samuel St and measures 100-ft by 100-ft area for a proposed telecommunications tower with a 270-ft by 20-ft access easement that extends east to Samuel St; approximately 0.35-acre in total (Figure 3). An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) shows no archaeological sites overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on June 15, 2021 by archaeologist Stephen Nazian, B.A., University of South Florida 2008, under the supervision of Andrew Smith, M.A., Ball State University 2010, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist. This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
