Abstract

The proposed project consists of the early acquisition of the remaining land for two land parcels 5274 009 and 5274 015 in Gwinnett County (Figure 1 and Figure 2). Early acquisition parcels are acquired prior to the project scoping to ensure the land parcel is available for the proposed project. This early acquisition undertaking is part of the larger proposed Sugarloaf Parkway Extension Phase II project that will extend Sugarloaf Parkway as a limited access four-lane expressway with a depressed 52-foot wide median from State Route (SR) 316/University Parkway northward to Interstate (I)-85. The purpose of the project is to relieve congestion and improved mobility between the eastern region of Gwinnett County (the SR 316/Dacula area) and the northern part of Gwinnett County (Buford/Sugar Hill/Suwanee) areas thereby mitigating local traffic congestion in Lawrenceville, on SR 20, and in the Mall of Georgia portions of the county. The proposed section would consist primarily of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 52-foot depressed grassed median and a 14-foot-wide outside shoulder and 12-foot wide inside shoulder, within a minimum of 400-foot proposed right-of-way (ROW). The roadway would be limited access expressway, designed to move high volumes of traffic efficiently. Interchanges are anticipated at SR 316, Fence Road, SR 124, and I-85.
