Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the widening of State Route (SR) 24 in Washington County east of Chambers Brooks Spring Road to west of Helton Lane for approximately 1.85 miles. Portions of the SR 24/Fall Line Freeway has been widened to a 4-lane corridor as part of GDOT P.I. # 222285 on new alignment north of the project area. In 2016, part of this new alignment suffered a structural collapse. The intent of this project is to complete the continuity of roadway on the existing alignment of SR 24. The proposed right-of-way (ROW) would vary from 125 feet to 200 feet wide. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is issuing a Section 404 permit for discrete portions of the project surrounding impacted Waters of the United States (WOTUS) and the immediate uplands (Figure 1).

The project was surveyed in 2018 (Davis et al. 2018) for archaeological resources by New South Associated (New South). This report covers portions of the project that fall within the jurisdiction of the USACE.
