Abstract

In April 2021, TrileafCorporation (Trileaf) performed a cultural resource inventory survey for a proposed self-support lattice communications tower located in Houston County, Perry, Georgia Latitude: 32° 29' 4.29" N, Longitude: 83° 45' 7.75" W. The project location is located within a partially wooded area with a clearing.

Verizon Wireless proposes the construction of a new self-support cell tower with a total height of 199 feet (60.65 meters). The new tower and associated equipment will be situated within a 100 x JOO-foot (30.48 x 30.48 meter) cell tower lease area. An approximately JO x 1,793.09-foot (3.05 x 546.53 meter) utility/fiber easement will travel north linking the lease area to Perry Parkway. Additionally, a 30 x 725-foot (9.14 x 220.98 meter) access easement will extend north away from the lease area and continue approximately 1,180 feet (359.66 meter) north along an existing asphalt drive towards Perry Parkway. Total acreage of the new construction area is approximately 1.95 acres (0.79 hectare).

Project Archaeologist Colin Bean, M.A., under the direction of Trileaf, performed this survey in response to the planned use of the above-described parcel and the potential impacts that such use might represent to archaeological and architectural cultural resources. The Phase I cultural resource survey was designed to discover all prehistoric and historical period cultural resources that might be present within the project area.

The field survey of the project area, which included a pedestrian survey, shovel testing, and visual inspection, yielded no evidence for the presence of archaeological or architectural properties within the Direct APE for the cun·ent project. Additionally, no NRHP-listed or eligible properties were identifiedwithin the proposed project's Direct or Visual APE (0.50-mile radius).

Based on these findings, Trileaf recommends No Historic Properties in both the APE-DE and theAPE-VE. It is therefore recommended that project clearance be granted with no further investigation or evaluation of the project area relative to those resources.
