Abstract

A cultural resources survey was conducted along 4.7 miles of the existing right-of-way of Darnell Creek Road in Rabun County, where reconstruction activities are proposed in Compartments 14, 15, and 38 of the Tallulah Ranger District. This area lies in Thomas and Darnell Creek Valleys, on the western slopes of Rabun Bald and adjacent ridges. It is ca. 3 miles south of the Georgia-North Carolina boundary, and ca. 2 miles east of the community of Dillard, north of Clayton. The area is represented on the Rabun Bald USGS Quadrangle {1946/1968}. The field survey was conducted on April 2, 1980, by the author assisted by District Ranger Reese Scull. Figures 1 and 2 locate the area surveyed.
